I was thinking about how hatcheries always have a bit of creep around them the moment they've begin building, and how spine crawlers can only be built on creep, so I tried this, and to my surprise, it worked!

Simply take a drone, press B-H and lay your hatchery, then press ESC-B-C and click in the middle of where your hatchery was to build a spine crawler. After they build, they will continually lose health since they need to be on creep.

I can think of very few real-world applications for this (I was playing against a "Very Easy" bot), but it's a fun trick anyway.

This works as of SC2 Beta Patch 9.

  • I've always wondered why do zerg buildings need creep to survive.. especially spine crawlers since they're perfectly fine running around, but deny them of creep when they're burrowed and they die? I wonder what's Starcraft's explanation for this.

  • @dreamsofmishra The answer is existential depression.

  • @MajinBacon too much time i guess

  • why not just do the hatch cancel -> spawn creep tumor then make them?

  • They look HILARIOUS!

  • Then they die because there is no creep.

  • @GeranylTube but his logic is now flawed because it is impossible to do because of costs for cancelling.... well that early...

  • The point of the video isn't beating the computer, guys. It's to prove that you can build things on the creep canceled hatcheries leave behind.

  • nice idea, i did never thought to do this =) well played, be blessed =)

  • 15 minutes in and your one base . . . . . nice try to catch up, making 6 hatches in the enemies base
