It doesn't have the disturbance that might have been caused should everything have been completely thrown all over (it almost does, it seems as though it tries to with the death and the little peek it gives you into the chicken's life and family, what it was losing

There is but temporary change in tone throughout the story, but the thing which really makes it matter - makes it, actually, the most prominent thing OF the story is its startling impact (literally and figuratively) - how unexpected it is with how normal the day starts; but everything is very realistic, very according to how it would have happened in OUR world.

Notes: One very minor theme could be how one can't ever seem to really ever shut the world out forever and

Everything goes well for a chicken and a pig, when at an encounter at the local store, something happens that changes their lives forever.

Themes: How everything and everybody is connected (especially in small cities), and about how everything is always the same, no matter what seems to jolt the status quo of everyday life.
