@Hotkarl63 Closed Gaurd is when your opponent is in your guard and your feet are locked behind them.. holding your opponent close to you.. open guard is just the opposite.. Your legs are open/on the hips/etc..

I'll never understand why I see "dislikes" on Jason's videos. What's to dislike?
I'm new to BJJ. I love the video but I'm confused why these are called "closed guard" techniques when you have to start every technique by opening your guard?

@Hotkarl63 Open guard is generally having more space between you and your opponent...e.g. Feet on the hips, etc. Closed guard is usually when there is not much space between you and your opponent and they are close to you.
