I went to help an AM station get back on the air. This is the "old" studio no longer in use.

  • Looks like this station was "rifled through" during a buyout or corporate takeover. If you need any help advice wise, I'd be more than happy... I'd have been like a kid in a candy store!

  • @AMStationEngineer nope, it is still privately owned, but the studio was moved next door to what was once the owner's house, i believe. Good 'Ol small town radio at it's best.

  • what are they doing with all of that stuff? and what about those nice speakers?

  • @SpeakerFreak95 I'm gonna try to talk them out of it eventually..

  • I'm working on trading some work for some of the stuff in this room. Not sure yet.. Those of you who haven't gone around to your local radio station to see what they would give you need to do so. 95% of the stuff I have came from Broadcast. My advice is offer to clean up "all the junk" for the one or two things you want. Don't let them know you want it all!

  • Wow, you got your work cut out for you! before you go through all the trouble, Check the FCC's DB if there's any open frequencies available

  • @northstar2007 no, not trying to get this stuff back on, this is just a junk room. Their "new" facility is licensed, and operational at 1000 kHz on your AM dial, though at low power for now.

  • Wow! How cool is that? A vintage radio station. That Russco turntable @ 1:12 looks like it needs a good home. PM me if the owner is interested in selling it.

  • 0:50 - i belive its a revox reel to reel recorder / player. our station just sold 2, each getting 100 quid each!

  • @vwestlife That's so true. I worked in radio from 1980 (at my 10 watt college station!) to 2000 and saw the transition. By 2000 I was basically babysitting a computer who did all the work for me.

I don't know why stations use their old studios or transmitter shed as a equipment graveyard. I worked at one station where they stored all their old records at the transmitter.. they were slowly warping or mildewing away and the owner didn't want to get rid of them.

  • @wildbilltexas That Garth Brooks poster is from his first greatest hits album, released in September 1994.

Nowadays, 2 or 3 desktop computers would be enough to replace that whole room full of old equipment.

  • That is wild! What treasures there! Sal
