Ya I live in Salem,IN and the CSX main is now storage for cars now. About 10 miles of cars I would guess. I think It would be cool The Monon Depot it town could get the track and do something with the form Monon line. They had a town meeting and I think the INRD was looking at the track rights
The south end is now closed. We interchange with the CSX for the local at Seymour(LIRC) on Freeman Lead and pick up on the SB trip from the siding. The line is now a glorified storage mainline.
I remember when we lost service on the south end as of June 1, 1992 then it was restored via Washington and MItchell on August 8, 1993. Now it is pretty much dead again except for the INRD (formerly CP, Soo, Milwaukee Road) trains that run infrequently. The semaphores still survive...for now.
Interesting, I am the President & CEO of Indiana Limestone Company, Oolitic, IN and we have a Quarry nearby (inactive) called Dark Hollow. I am model railroader presently modeling a Quarry and Mill Operation (fictitious) but loosely based on a turn of the century - 1920 Limestone operation in On30.
Nice video, the Monon is facinating with all its history. I worked as a conductor for a short time in 2004 out of Louisville, KY. We had trains that went to Washington,IN on the Monon. I'm sure there are a lot more abandoned strips out that way.
@storrs19 CSX has done NOTHING but try to kill rail service in Indiana on all but the old B&O across NE Indiana.
