  • I was once asked in a job interview what type of car I drive. When he saw my look of surprise, the interviewer said that the person's choice of car was an indication of their personality type, and therefore a valid question. He then had me stand up to take a look out the window at his brand new Ferrari. Thankfully I didn't get that job.

  • I had a supervisor who was tremendously unhappy and only found solace when she could make other people's lives miserable. Too bad she worked in a prison.

  • Years ago at my company's holiday party, our CEO got up and told everyone to enjoy the party and the holidays because there would be a lot of layoffs in January. Every time someone was fired we'd all be jealous because that person had escaped from Hell.

  • The weirdest question was, "Is Joy your real name or is it a nickname?" When I responded that it is my real name, he responded, "Well, you should change it. It's a trivial name. I suggest Joanne or Joyce."

  • During the Dot Com boom we had hired a technical contractor, been there about 4 days. Tough to find talent at that time so we were glad to have him. Knew his stuff, did a good job. On the 4th day, 3 FBI guys came and had us get him alone in an empty room where they hand cuffed and took him away... Gave us some BS about extraditing him back to NY for back child support. Still dont know what the real story was...

  • Worst Boss (extreme backstabber): Worked with me to create a proposal to fix a problem (to be presented to her boss). When I presented the proposal, she attacked every point in the proposal and said I had taken a completely the wrong direction.

  • I worked for a Fortune 500 CEO as the head of marketing. During a meeting with my boss he went into a rage and began pounding the table and screaming at me about what marketing really is. In the process of slamming his fist on the table his cuff link broke. After the meeting his assistant called me to come back to his office, pick up the cuff link and have it fixed at my expense. This was just one link in an unending chain of horrifying boss stories.

  • I recently had an employee, who had worked for us for about ten years, resign. Immediately thereafter she told us she'd like to work for us one less day and a few less hours a week for the same pay, if we'd give her a sign-on bonus.

  • I had a boss that wanted me to clean his office in his absence and carry his briefcase back to the office for him so he could go have a beer.

  • My colleague emailed me about what was up our boss's backside that day. I responded by emailing MY BOSS instead of my colleague with an explicit reason for his foul mood. As soon as I pressed the Send button, my entire body froze. I had to sneak into my boss's office, delete the email, then delete it from his Deleted box. Since then, I keep those comments to myself!
