Laney LV300 is a good amp (with tube preamp) and decent compared to its price.
It has two chanells a bluesy (drive 1) and a dirty (drive 2) and is equipped with two 12'' Celestion speakers so it is sth like half a cabinet someone might say.
In this vid I used the bluesy one (Gain 10,volume 1, Reverb 9,VTS both enabled) which has a slight tube overdrive suitable for bluesy stuff although I didn't play blues at all during the vid. The first secs of the vid is with this channel and without overdrive.
The rest of the vid is with a Boss MZ-2 metallizer put in the Overdrive mode. It has 5 different distortion modes even with Chorus. The setup was volume 1/4, treble 1/2,Overdrive full and ready for shredding.

The use of a compression sustainer and Noise suppressor will make the sound cleaner and better for sure. In case someone wants to use the dirty channel single coils are weak for riffs and sustain so a guitar with humbuckers are a prerequisite.

P.S Sorry for the fan sound in the beginning but the summer is f....ing hot around here and sweaty hands are useless. Apologies also for any sloppy parts due to improvisation .

  • wat do u think of this for metal? i have a ibanez 350dx with emg 81 n 85 pick ups and a boss mt2. do thing they will work, with this amp?

  • @fpsrtsr I havent tried it with active pickups yet but in the clen channel it will work well typically as a good solid state type amp. I dont really know how it will react with a preamp tube int he bluesy and dirty channel with this type of gear.

  • hey dude! congratulations, u play very well!!

would you recomend this amp for me? i'm looking for something like slash's sound. i'm gonna use a les paul (perhaps a epiphone std) and a dunlop crybaby classic... and i'd use the 1st drive channel for solos and stuff and the 2nd drive channel for distorted bases. do you think it'd sound nice? i can't go to a guitar shop and test it...

    thanks!

  • Thanx for comment bro. To catch up with Slashe's sound for soloing you would definitely use the "dirty channel". It would be better to use an overdrive at least preferably a tube one. The first channel would be better for cleaner distorted bases if you use humbuckers just as Epiphone's. Laney is a bit tricky and someone might need a few hours to "tune" his gear in fine mode with this amp. Gain experimental work is a prerequisite.

  • would you recommend this amp for more pop punky powerchord with lotsa palm muting kinda music?

  • Not that it wouldn't do the job but I think that other amps would have more "color" for this style. It depends on the pop style as it can range from a Vox's mid till Mesa and Marshall. This sound is tricky, better go to a shop and do a thorough search trying it all or buy a multi effect like XT POD or Tonelab.

  • why do people use such cheap pedals when the amp has a beatiful distortion?

  • this noise, comes from the AMP? or from the pedal?

  • how loud is this amp?

I mean, can I use it to play rock, but quietly?

  • hey man great playing would this amp doo for blues and metalica?

  • Does it have a Line Out option?!

  • Amplifiers have two parts. Preamp and power amp. The most professional player use tube amps, where you can find tubes in the preamp and power amp too. Solid state amps are cheaper, in these kind of amps there's a transistor system and there are no tubes (tube amps have better and warmer sound). In other kind of amps - like LV300 - there are tubes or only one tube in the preamp, you can get the gain, the overdrive from the preamp tubes. But in the power amp, there are no tubes, only transistor.

  • Noise is because he is using single coil pickups with distortion. With sistortion on, he should either use the 2nd or 4th pickup setting or humbuckers to stop the hum :)

  • I wouldn't realy call this a demo... but cool anyway!

  • I hope it's coming from that fan from the start of the video...

  • excellent player. cool video.
