Why didn't they take an Original JCW ??? It has a lot more than just an other exhaust, Air-filter and an other ECU !!!
Hi there Shaun,
there are two generations of the NewMINI: The first gen, 2001-2006, facelifted in 2004 AFAIR, was called the R50 (Cooper, One), the R52 (Cabrio) and the R53 (Cooper S). The latter could be fitted with the John Cooper Works Kit.
BMW changed the model numbers for the second generation (2007-today). Now all hatchbacks are called R56, the Clubman is the R55, the Cabrio became the R57 - and then there's the R60, the Countryman.

Max hp on the 1st gen was 210, 2nd gen JCW have 211hp (here in Europe), but the numbers don't do the new engine justice. Even though there is only 1 horse difference, the 2nd gen feels much more powerful and consumes much less - and I mean much less - fuel. Driven fast, a 1st gen JCW sucks up 19 Litres/100Km easily, whereas the new is hard to push over 10.

IMHO, the A3 cannot match the R56 JCW in any way, but then thats just me. Try them both, I bet the grin on your face will make you go for the MINI ;-)
