I point out on some of my videos how disappointed I've been with Gibsons made in recent years -- poor craftsmanship, factory problems, weak quality control, etc.I had given up on Gibsons completely until I played the Gibson Tribal Explorer -- a quality guitar that deserves recognition.

I discuss the following:

. 500T / 496R Gibson Pickups
. Body design
. Fret leveling and low action bends
. Nut
. Dunlop strings
. Kalher 2215 tremolo
. Tuning stability tips
. Locking tuners

I'm playing the guitar with a 150-watt Line 6 Spider IV amplifier (built-in Insane
distortion mode). I use Dunlop strings 10-46 tuned 1 step down.

  • I thought this was the same as the Shred-X (other than pickups), which you hated.

  • @TheZombieRitual Good point. This guitar is better than the Shred-X for several reasons: (1) Much better sound / (2) Much lighter body weight / (3) Much better fret leveling / (4) A lot less pickup hum / (5) No bends fretting out / (5) Better quality nut / (6) Nicer finish

  • Been a Fender guy forever. Bought one of those 60s reissue Gibson Les Paul's. Got a goldtop with p90s.

It won't stay in tune. It has blemish on the front. AMS kindly gave a discount for the blem. Very disappointed.

I don't want to put grover tuners on it, but I may have to. I am use to tuning a strat ever other month or so. I feel lucky if I can make it through one song and still be in tune with that Goldtop piece of shit!

  • Any guitar with high-quality nuts is the real biz.
