"The Man wants to suck you dry, then give you five minutes of rest before killing you!"

Playing Helsinki, Goteburg, Kil, St. Petersburg, Kiev, Odessa, Lviv and Kraków in the summer of 2006 before finally returning stateside, this is the little experimental film that could!

Before I shot this, I couldn't find an example of what extended nighttime time lapse would look like when done on Super 8mm. So I thought I'd try it.

This was done all at night in available light. Slow speed Ektachrome 64T Super 8mm. One roll. 2-4 second exposures per frame. Shot all single frame. Budget under $40. Camera was a Nizo 561 Macro with the variable shutter.

Being able to hold the shutter wide open for as long as you want, is a pretty cool feature on the later Nizo models.

I was bummed about how soft the shots came out and their lack of stability. I hoped shooting single frame would actually give the film less of the Super 8mm jitter (charming I know) and might look sharper, reasoning that the film would settle in the gate better when doing single frame.

I venture to guess if I did this with a Bolex and shot on 16mm it would have been much sharper and steadier. But it was fun to do and affordable.

Relax and tune in mentally...

AND MAKE SURE TO CRANK UP YOUR SOUND!
