Happy New Year viewers and subscribers! We'll we're at it again, AK-Mick and I set out for another New Year Hike. This time My girlfriend, 'SkySong' 'Shot Placement' and 'Jarhead Clan' come along and bring their girlfriends. Our destination is a rock feature on the NE end of the McDowell Mountain Range, called Tom's Thumb. I've been going there since I was 15 years old. The topography there is fairly unique with a setting of massive, house and building sized granite boulders. Only the NE end of the range contains this these types of formations but there are other similar rock formations scattered about a 40 square mile geographic area. The range is a bit over 5 million years old and is formed of miocene layers. This area happens to be the most central and the largest collection of slow erosion miocene in the region. The tallest point of the McDowell range also happens to be in this area and rises approximately 4200ft asl. Two other prominent and nearly as tall peaks rise above 4000ft toward the middle of the range, referred to as Lookout and Tower Peak. Please enjoy and leave your questions and comments!

  • Fascinating place your hiking in buddy. Cactus snacks huh ? LOL

Nice hike with friends... I like it.

  • @TacticalHadoken Yeah, fun stuff for everyone. I should freeze dry some cholla cactus for you and send it your way...lol. I imagine you probably have plenty of cactus already. :)

  • @patriot36 um can you do a video about edc keychains as they are my favorite edc kits if you get the chance I know you have made videos like that but one that actually goes into why and what you choose to go on an edc keychain

  • @themmswandstuff I'm a big fan of edc key chains or lanyards and I previously gave of glimpse of mine in the "EDC / USK Backpack 2012" series. I was planning on making a "bare minimums" kit video and my favorite bare minimums format happens to be the lanyard. A key chain is just a good if one can comfortably carry it. I'll see if I can put this together in the next couple of weeks. Thx for watchin' man!

  • Good times with friends in the outdoors on a beautiful day! Thanks so much for sharing.

  • @ds10363 You're so welcome DS! It was a really fun video to take and edit, and of course my friends enjoyed watching it as well.

  • @mojopin12 Thanks Mojo. I don't say that lightly either, because it really means a lot to me that I did at least a reasonable job of capturing the moment. I always want to draw the audience in. Sometimes I'm successful, other times not so much, but I'm really glad you liked this one.

  • @LastStarfighterAJ Thanks buddy! Yeah, it was just a two part-er. It's great to have the open places and freedom.

  • @Cr0cket20 Thanks Crocket! The filming and chasing of those neat animals is one of my favorite things to do. I've often thought while watching some of your vids that I wished I was there glassing up critters with ya.

Sometimes it's even hard for me to remember life without a cell phone or GPS but it sure was business as usual back then. When I added that annotation it made me think exactly as you said, that I was an old timer dating myself..lol

  • Love that buck you start the vid with. Funny when you were discussing "before cell phones." I remember those days. We're starting to sound like the old timers when they talked about black and white vs color tv ; )
