@mark40511 Well, there are a lot of beloved characters that didn't make it as starring roles. Like the Ropers, Flo, Phyllis, et al. Sometimes ensemble characters don't work when they are alone., but sometimes they do. You never know.

@bluenail03 I always wondered since Flo was the most popular character on Alice, why, when she got her own show, did it not make it.......Yes Alice stayed on for years after that?

@bellbm That is why Polly Holliday left the show as Flo. LL wanted her gone and PH HATED LL. Sad that "Flo" didn't last. BTW - notice that after PH/Flo left, there was NEVER another mention of her and she was NEVER seen in any of the flashbacks in "Alice" - it was as if PH/Flo never existed.

@Matto2t I like Celia Weston too. She did an episode of ER years later that I still love. It seemed a revolving door with the third waitress on Alice though. That being said, its was a good show.

Hmmm, what did you not like about Jolene or the actress who played her, Celia Weston? I thought Jolene was okay, and I think Celia Weston's an excellent actress.

I agree with you about Vera. She was so cheerful. I actually liked the other characters in the show as well. Flo's my favorite. I have learned that some people stopped watching the show after she left, or stopped after Belle left, or continued watching until the show's run ended in 1985. It was one of the shows to have quite a long production run in spite of several cast changes.
