For almost two weeks, Al Jazeera's Tony Birtley saw first hand the popular protests against Myanmar's military government and the subsequent crackdown. Each day he filed reports as soldiers were ordered to open fire on unarmed protesters. Three Al Jazeera cameras captured the events as they unfolded in the largest city, Yangon. The scenes of repression show the violent treatment meted out to protesters. You can Watch Al Jazeera's exclusive programme 'Inside Myanmar: The Crackdown' at the following times GMT:

Yeah, the government afraid of people, so they kill as many people as they can to make sure that no Democracy Movement happen again. They don't care people suffering, they care only making money for themselves by selling country resources and buy more weapons. That's why they look like stinky poop.

  • @mugsrootbeer ---------They will soon fall, and the world will be a better place.------->Yep. MYanmar junta will fall, Syu Kyi will take over, ethnic armies will step up their pressure for independent homeland, anarchy will break loose, UN will go in, and we will see a US friendly dictator installed instead...

    yay!

  • I feel very bad for the civilians brutalized here, but to be objective, in this crackdown, \ United Nations figures pointed the death toll at 31. More people died in Rodney King riots in Los Angeles in 1992- the toll there was 52.

  • far as I can see monks weren't hit dat hard. Only da PEEPZ ate the biggest shits.

  • People in Burma hate their oppressors. When British, French, and American warships anchored off the coast to assist cyclone victims, many frantically called Western embassies and said "You're coming to save us, aren't you"?

The task is to make sure that not only does democracy win, but that the perpetrators and Dictator Than Shwe face justice.
