As seen in the Naruto manga volume 48 by Masashi Kishimoto, Jiraiya goes engages a heated battle with former student and Akatsuki leader Pein. He turns into sage mood and with the help of his toad allies he manages to destroy one of Pein's six forms. Yes, Pein actually has control over six bodies, and even legendary sannin Jiraiya could only take down one. Anyway, here's the final details to his death. The text has been translated as accuratedly as possible as many viewers can't read Japanese and the images are distorted due to the scanner... but I've tried to clarify it the best I could.
