synopsis (worldmovies.net):
"Live And Become is a stimulating masterpiece about the dispossession and resettlement of a Christian Ethiopian boy pretending to be Jewish in order to seek refuge in Israel. He must learn to live with prejudice and racism as he struggles to find his identity in this socio-political drama that takes a bold and emotive stance on issues crucial to current times.

In 1984 an operation by the Israeli secret service airlifted thousands of Falashas, Ethiopian Jews displaced by civil war and famine, to seek solace and refuge in Israel. An Ethiopian Christian widow urges the mother of a deceased boy to take her 9-year-old son and instructs him to 'become' Jewish in order to survive. Once in Israel, he encounters isolation and loneliness as he longs for his mother and stumbles in a society that does not fully accept him. The film recounts his journey as a young boy, a teenager and a fully grown adult as he learns to live with the drastic changes of his adopted home. A poignant and engaging film that deals with the difficult question of belonging in a changing world."

a simple yet powerful song, "My Ethiopian Boy".
written by Bezalel Aloni & Ofra Haza.

Kum Ve Lech Al Tiv Kae...
(rise and go, don't cry)

Go on
My Ethiopian boy
Go on
Go fight for your own
One day, you will see
Your mind will be free
I love you

Kum Ve Lech Al Tiv Kae...

Go on
My Ethiopian boy
Go on
You are not alone
One day, you will see
Your mind will be free
I love you

Kum Ve Lech Al Tiv Kae...

  • The Jewish majority in Israel is Mizrahi/Sephardi(although the two are different classifications)...then followed by Ashkenazi.Yeah Ethiopian Jews dont allways get treated right.....it makes me mad sometimes at the situation...but they are finding their way into Israeli society..even having a member in the knesset.Prejudice comes from Israelis of all back grounds..sadly it's human nature.

  • Israel: the ONLY nation on earth to rescue indigenous African people as full citizens, I am VERY proud to be Israeli Welcome home to our Ethiopian brothers, we love you!

  • @MrIsraeliyo this is such a stupid and not to say racist comment: let me explain you one thing dear Mr israliyo before beeing indigenous african people , they are first jewish, they share with you the same faith , the One who created you also created them, and i dont think its wise from you to be that proud seeing how they are treated by their own brothers in their country, treated like less than nothing because of the colour of their skin. .

  • G-D BLESS ISRAEL!

  • this song is a striking proof of her original artistic skills, Ofra Haza's uniqueness is a profound stamp on the Middle East art.

  • Выдающаяся певица всех времён и народов, самая прекрасная женщина. Весь мир любит тебя, Офра.

  • The movie is one of the best, if not the best, I ever watched. It is touchy and sensual. It touches different aspect of life: love, racism, poverty, war, and losing your mom and living a life of lie....it is definitely the movie you would remember for the rest of your life.

However, the Amharic(language) part is poor, don't know about French & Hebrew sinceI I don't speak them. They should have brought a good Amharic speaker from back home. over all, it is an amazing movie.

  • Just love this song!. Such a beautiful voice!!! RIP x
