My betas cought a different kind of desease and it was from the workers of Petsmart for not cleaning the nets and we had them get snailes for us so we could have bottom feeders in the tank and when we put the snails in about 5 days later my two betas got extremly sick they had this whiteish cottony stuff on their scales and my male betta died first then my female and my other fishes died and now the snails are dead and they had that weird cotton like stuff on them. Now I have only one fish left.

Dropsy is a fatal disease for Bettas. There's no known cure, unfortunately. Treating Dropsy is pretty much useless. It's heart breaking.

poor fish did u find out wat was rong with her? i have 4 females and 1 male in 1 tank!

thats a male by the way....

@SPenycat Cure dropsy by anti-bacterial food. You can order it online! Hope you have luck with your fish, Jacob Keogh.

@dirtay75 Old comment, but I thought I'd reply since I've dealt with a large case of dropsy.
While dropsy itself is not contagious, what caused it probably is, so the rest of them very well could end up getting it. The best thing you can do is keep the water clean and stay away from any frozen foods that may have caused the problem.
Dropsy is horrible. Worst thing anyone with fish can encounter.

I'm so sorry, mine didn't make it. I wish you well with yours! I have yet to figure out how to cure the dropsy, I've luckily only had this one fish with the problem.

Did you test your water parameters? Rather than dumping in a bunch of meds, I'd always recommend doing large water changes with same-temp dechlor'd water and a bit of salt. She looked like she was suffering from high ammonia. We betta folks need to get better about testing water and understanding the nitrogen cycle..... Sorry she didn't make it.

yeah I test my water and do weekly water changes in all my fishroom (betta included) It was really sad to lose her

if u dont pair females they'll pass away, thats when they have big stomachs for awile and no one to lay with its in the system...

I've never heard that before, but I have heard that if a female gets too full of eggs, she may very well build her own nest and lay eggs herself with no males around...course they will never hatch. I've also heard about many people who keep a female tank that live for a long time without any males/spawning.
