[Part 3/3 of ASL vs SEE]

Lip reading is NOT an effective form of communication!

At most, only 30% of the English language is distinguishable on the lips.

Far too many hearing individuals equate the ability to speak with intelligence.

Far too many deaf individuals equate the ability to speak with intelligence.

Far too many Deaf individuals let their intelligence be equated with the ability to speak.

Far too many hearing individuals are equivocal about their ability and intelligence.

I consider myself an expert lip-reader, however, expert in this case means a 30% achievement rate alongside a 70% failure rate. There is nothing expert about failing 70% of the time. So I guess, "expert lip-reader," is an oxymoron. When I believe I can rely solely on lip-reading I become an expert of failure.

Lip-reading: In a sentence of 10 words -- I understand only 3.

Using λ to denote λ:
The linguistic lamda of lip-reading is the Greek value of: λ (%).
Using synonyms of failure to describe systems of failure, because: failure begets failure.

[Lambda (λ) denotes the *failure rate* of devices and systems in reliability theory.
In Greek numerals λ has a value of 30.]

  • Hahahahahaha I loved it!!! " i want F****You. Lol

I am giving you more than 5 stars. 10 starts!!!!!!!

  • @DaveASL ROFL! I love it. Seriously, SEE just seems disrespectful to me (I'm a linguist with a degree in Sign Language Studies, and I'm also a CODA). Do you think any of these people would impose English word order on a spoken language and expect to be understood? Japanese for instance, is a S.O.V. (subject, object, verb) language like ASL and yet we don't impose English word order on Japanese and expect a Japanese speaker to understand us. SEE IS A FLAWED CONCEPT.

  • @WiLDHaNdZ I'm a CODA and I have my degree in Sign Lang Studies from Madonna University. Am *I* Enough of an expert for you? Trust me, Signed English is crap compared to ASL. SEE is NOT the natural language of the Deaf community and its really difficult for ASL users to comprehend. It was invented by Hearing people who can't be bothered to learn the syntax, grammar, lexicography and other important factors of a foreign language. Would you impose English word order on Japanese? I doubt it.

  • @1RavynSkye psh, let me make a slight change to that comment, "Its very, as the ASL signer in the video explained, awkward. ASL is MUCH clearer and easier for most Deaf people." --> "It's very.....awkward. ASL is MUCH clearer and easier to understand in general."

  • @1RavynSkye ohh understand, thank you so much!

  • @Klausny5 Yes, it is. It CAN be the difference between "The right to bear arms" being signed as "right/ have/ guns" as in holding something/showing something and the 'right' as in the inalienably right, and "the right to bear arms" being signed as "the bear's arms moved to the right", as in the animal and the direction.

  • @WiLDHaNdZ Ohh Understand Thank you so much!
