Mike's 1935 Kelvin E2 marine petrol / paraffin engine, it hasn't been started for over 6 months, but still I had better luck than Tim. For more info on Kelvin engines and their history:-

  • wow!! i rebuild small lawnmower engines for a living. is that more compex than a standerd 7 hp lawnmower engine or is it more complex. id think it'd be simpe because of its age but ive been wrong before!!

  • It's a bit more complex than an lawnmower engine as the vapourizer will let it run on straight paraffin, no need for TVO, I also rebuilt the 6 litre 44 SHP petrol start Kelvin J4 marine diesel in my other video.

  • nice!! your pretty lucky to have it run and look so good! what year and how many hp

  • Hi, the engine was built in 1935 and is 7.5hp

I rebuilt it 4 years ago.

  • i know you used your hand, but it seems to operate in a similar way to a kickstart on a motorcycle! sounds good though....

  • Hi, it is actually a cranking handle, but as the magneto has an impulse unit fitted to it you only have to pull the engine over compression to start it rather than continuously turn the handle.

So I don't have the only small sleeve valve engine vid on youtube!

Mine is a single cylinder modified lawnmower engine, I rev it up to 6400rpm.

    Cool vid! Go Sleeve valves!!!

  • Minibike? NO! MiniSHIP :-) nice engine!

  • wow its very very sensitive try starting it by turning the flywheel :)

  • I had never heard of a paraffin engine before. Sweet looking machine. And she runs like a sewing machine, I think.

  • Very nice engine...It's so clean... Great piece of craftsmanship there..
