Hurricane Katrina:
One of the most destructive hurricane in U.S. history.
Wind speed up to 175 mph.
August 27, 2005 passed over the coast of Florida, near Miami, and turned toward the Gulf of Mexico.
August 29, 2005 reached the southeast coast of the United States in the district of Louisiana.
Due to the location below sea level, 80% of the city New Orleans was under water.
Many buildings collapsed.
Russian students are in the disaster area, were evacuated.
Due to the fact that most of the police was transferred for rescue work,
the city flooded with criminal violence. State of emergency declared.
Officially confirmed number of victims of disaster was
1,407 people (1,836), more than 720 of them in New Orleans, 47 people missing.
