Just got a sweet review from the Library Journal on the fondant DVD with Robin. This is what they said:
Robin Hassett, co-owner of and baker at the Dessert Tray in Portland, OR, shares in this lively and informative DVD her tips and tricks for working with fondant, that mix of sugar, water, and flavoring that is the foundation of many candies and icings.
After discussing the basic tools and techniques, Hassett provides a recipe for fondant and then goes through the step-by-step process of decorating two different birthday cakes. Excellent production values and a well-designed menu allow viewers to navigate the DVD with ease. Hassett proves to be an engaging and cheery guide to the world of fondant, making this program the perfect choice for beginning cooks who want to start turning out their own colorful cakes. A useful addition to any public library cooking collection.—John Charles, Scottsdale P.L., AZ.

  • Hey! Lovely video :)

I'm just starting cake decoration.. love your cakes ..I want to buy fondant cutters, can you suggest which ones are the most useful ones which are like must haves? Thank you

  • @crazymary789 Robin has a collection of circles (a big favorite) and petals (which she uses to make flowers) - both in various sizes - that she uses a lot. Another tool that comes in handy for making flowers is a ball tool. Hope this helps! (p.s. Robin shares more basic info in the DVD, link above in description)

  • hi there, i jst wanna ask, what did u use to stick the cake board to fondant? i mean when u placed the second layer with cake board, on top of the bottom layer cake covered with fondant in 03:33, is it royal icing? and do u always use royal icing as glue? thank youu!!!

  • @myb00b00 Boy, that was quick - good catch! Yes, Robin uses the same (buttercream) frosting to 'glue' the smaller layers onto the one beneath.

  • what is that fondant mix? Nice vid. :)

  • @YankeeSlayer69 Thanks! Robin likes using Bakels pettinice white rolled fondant - it comes pre-made. Since she uses so much of it, she gets a good amount at a time.

  • cake boss

  • How do u get rid of the corn starch in the fondant? What is your recipe for your butter cream?

  • @cameradiva12 The tastes can vary, for example, I've had my share of good and bad fondants, I tasted one once that was too hard and was not sweet at all, another one at a wedding, that one has been my favorite one, the buttercream was very good, and the fondant had a very nice texture and a VERY good taste, so it can vary, you could say it depends one everyone's touch or so..... (that's just me). Hope this helped!!! and Yes, the cakes look very pretty with the fondant.... :)

  • feel like having a cake right now!
