RTE never turned his show down, they didn't get the option to even take it up. Linehan and Matthews pitched Father Ted straight to Channel 4 and they took it and ran with it, the RTE thing is a myth.
@myiagi900 I am no big fan of RTE my self, RTE turned his show down the first time,and they lost out,just look at Dara o Brien,Graham Norton and many others who have left Ireland,i think they all got sick of RTE,there are great comics who left Britain to work in the United States like Hugh Laurie,who is a exceptional comic,but most of his comical sketches were toned down for an American Audience,they are not allowed to express their true comical genius,George Carlin over came those censorship's.
@Elevationary he was always taken the piss with priests an u no the old days here that wasnt allowed but wen the scandals broke this lad was in the rite place at the rite time u tink back it was 92 wen dat casey was caught with the secret lover the church went down after that it all came out this lad hit the nail on the head it was a change in everything religion started to b a joke people saw the otherside of it and liked it lol he was brilliant im glad he got his fame fuk rte
He was not really liked by many Irish people in the beginning,there were parish priests who hated him,and no one really knew what he was about,until later on,because of his priest sitcoms,i think it was a big shame that RTE or the media company's never got over them selves,i think they lost out on a a big sum of money and copyrights,which channel four now owns.you have to ask your selves why so many talented Irish Comedians go to Britain or America,with their sketches.he will be missed for sure.
@KeithD194 It's a myth!

This embodies the very depths of hypocrisy in the rte camp,
''We wish him best of luck on his new series'',
rubbish.
Morgan stood up to the mob, an Irish hero!
