  • Great player, no mistake. But on acoustic his tone is rather mediocre imho. Basically his right hand picking technique is suited for electric. Here it produces a thin, jingly, tone and very poorly phrased for that matter.

  • It's like a bad Django imitation. Surely not JL's forte. He's so much better on electric with his own pieces. This is just rat-tat-tat typing away.

  • His lines are great .

  • I'd love to hear him talk with Johnny on the couch- post it for us?

  • His song writing is ultra creative, one of this first and best fusion artists

  • umm, the guitar is IN tune.

JMac don't play outta tune. Getcher ears checked.

  • Hate to be the one to point this out, but that guitar is really out of tune.

  • Its sad that you type in John Mclaughlin and all these music sites pull up some D bag. This is the real John Mclaughlin.

  • I actually saw and recorded (on Beta max) the original broadcast of that, and Johnny talked with John on the couch, it was a great interview and it was said in it that John wrote the chart on it. Thanks for the great post

  • @blackassdave That could be, man! I know Tommy Newsom did the bulk of arrangements for the NBC Band. A great story I heard while at Peabody Conservatory: Tommy came to audition on clarinet for professor Sydney Forrest. Sydney told him he had no talent and should take up another line of work! So, what became of Tommy vs. what became of Sydney? Some things are a no-brainer, eh? Good day, and Merry Christmas.
