Her father helped in 2001 when Glen played some shows in Czech (along with Damien Rice, Lisa Hannigan and Mic Christopher).

Glen got very close with the family and helped Marketa come out of her shell with her music. He was like her mentor. They say due to the strength of the friendship they already had and the romanticism of the movie 'Once' - their relationship became something more while filming it.

Why would we have any reason not to believe it?

@breakfastroute No, this would be 2002, since Glen says the song was written just a few months before. (I have other recordings of them performing the song in 2002, so this can't be any later.) And to reply to anonbeliever1, they met in Czech in 2001 (check out the Valmez campfire vids and the Heyday video to see that documented!) . They filmed Once in January, 2006, and started dating in April, 2007, according to Glen. Hope that helps. :-)

@billfig I'm not entirely sure, but wasn't Once recorded in January 2006? And to be honest this version seems a bit rough still. I would say this is in 2005, but that's just me guessing.

The person who posted this video is wrong about the date. This is from 2006, when Marketa was 18 years old. They started dating while filming Once. Jeez, people!

I never knew this song was written so long ago. l thought they only met just before Once. It does look a wee bit dodgy in this video the way they look at each other. She would only be 14 and he would be 32. It says on wikipedia that they only started going out after they filmed Once but this video, to me, says otherwise. I'm still going to see them in Jan though.
