This is my second entry in the 2010 bringthesong.org original song video contest, sponsored by Mainland Ukes. Thank you Mainland Ukes!
The title of this song is pretty much a direct quote of something my Uncle George said to me on a tour to Russia in 1995. It ended up being a great trip, but at first George had a little trouble adjusting. So as the inspiration for this song, I'd like to dedicate it to him, although he is no longer with us. Hope you like it, George!
Chords, lyrics, and uke fingering can be found at:
They say that travel broadens the mind
I've no doubt that it's true
But for me I also find
Sometimes makes me blue...
I went on a trip, just a nice guided tour
The people were smiling in that glossy brochure
Now that I'm there, wondering where did they go?
Are we there yet?
And feeling homesick is the best feeling I get.
The plane ate my bag, I don't like to complain
Get used to this shirt, only one to my name
Don't speak the language, just wanted a sandwich to go
Hold the mayo
And feeling homesick was the best feeling all day.
Why did I go? How could I know? I'd end up feeling so low.
What do I do? Feeling so blue, the world takes on an indigo hue
It's kind of pretty
And feeling homesick is the best feeling it's true.
At the end of the day I just try to forget
But that feeling comes over of poignant regret
And then I give in
Think I'm beginning to know
I kind of like it
Feeling homesick is the best feeling I get.
