The old and the new at Brockenhurst as 3CIG unit 1498 leaves for Lymington Pier. Then we see the unit continuing it's journey at Lymington Town. The two units that work this line, 1497 and 1498, are the last survivors in service of the massive Southern Region slam door fleet. They are due to be replaced soon by a class 158 diesel unit.

  • Great Video, 5 Stars! How much longer have the Greyhound Units got? Or are they all ready gone? As I went on the line on Saturday and it was a Class 450!

  • Thanks for the kind comments. The 3-CIGs only seem to work on weekdays. The latest I've heard for withdrawal is May 2010, due to the need for training Bournemouth Crews on the 158 unit.

  • I've heard they're finishing at the start of December 2009 timetable change. Class 158 from then on. End of yet another era!!!

  • Not only on weekdays as I travelled on 1498 yesterday. (Sunday). Excellent as usual!!!

  • Only weekdays then? I suppose that makes sense as i would of thought there are spare trains at weekends

  • Thanks I'll have to try at get down there again before May 2010 then!
