Grand Funk Railroad had a great run back in the late 60s thru the early-to-mid 70s. This is our rendition of Inside Looking Out which became a cult classic among the truest and most faithful fans of Mark, Don, & Mel. This video clip does not contain any footage of us actually playing the song as it was an audio-only project in the beginning and we never got around to making any video for a variety of reasons. I have been sitting on this audio track for several months with the intent of putting something together for a video, which I just finally got around to completing with some help of a video of the band performing this song live. The tempo was a pretty close match but not perfect.

This virtual audio production is performed by:

Mark Estes (hawkstudio) on Bass Guitar
Tim Grogg (starhomer) on Drums
Larry Curtis (silverhamer) on Guitar and Vocal

Mark produced the audio mix...and did a darn fine job of it. He also does a flawless job of playing Mel Schacher's bass chops. Tim was absolutely spot-on with the drums...I thought Don Brewer was on his track when I first heard it, particularly during the ending flurish. I purchased a harmonica to play the harmonica part in the middle of the song, but it's been so long since I've fooled around with one that I just couldn't get a handle on it...and so I improvised with my guitar through a talk box. It was fun and it turned out pretty cool.

Thanks for hanging out with us.

  • @poolph01 Hi PJ! Glad you enjoyed it, bro. Yea, like George Harrison said way back when..."all things must pass" and so it goes. I feel a great sense of privilege for having grown up in an era which spawned such cool music and it is always fun to "flash-back" from time to time.

  • That just made my morning, sounded great. You just took me back to 16 yrs old hooking school at someones house, thats probably the last time I heard that tune.Man those where the days good album rock needs to come back. Great job!!!!

  • @gsstrings LOL, and your comment just made my day...hooking school at a friend's house doing things we really shouldn't be talking about...ROFL. One of my favorite friends to ditch with had an open-reel deck in his bedroom with a great pair of really big speakers and he had reels and reels of Moody Blues and such...needless to say we'd have a great time "spacing-out" for an afternoon...and that's all I'm gonna say about that...:D
