he didnt explain it the right way. the lights have a sensor, so if you enter a tunnel or a garage, they will turn on automatically.

btw nice car. i have an auris, same car but more stylish. corolla is way dull.

Lights would automatically turn off if left in the "On" position and come back one when the car is started since 1993. I own a 93 corolla. Great car! I want another.
