Imagine you travel through a dry and waste land like the Thar desert during summertime and a temperature of 46 degrees Celsius and more......and suddenly a true oasis arises on the horizont with a huge fortress on a mountain! It is like a mirracle!
That was my first impression of Jaisalmer.
An oasis in the middle of nowhere!
Jaisalmer is a sleepy place in the middle of nowhere, close to the Pakistani border right in the desert. Maybe this isolation is the reason why this magnificent place kept preserved like back in its hey-days. Yes, the fort on the hill is completely intact like back in the days. There only exist the old sandstone buildings, temples and the palace, protected by huge walls and strong gates. It is like going back with a time machine!
There are plenty of possibilities to stay right inside the fort, with beautiful balconies and a great view over the desert. Stroll around through the narrow alleys with its beautifully decorated sandstone buildings! It is pure history!

  • i would like to do the safari where you arrive in jaisalmer at the end. which city did you start from in and how long did it take to get to jaisalmer?

  • This safari was just a daytrip from Jaisalmer. But you can choose and if you want to do a really big one do Jaisalmer-Bikaner for around two weeks (or so) for example.
