ANCHOR:
Last Sunday a large scale festival was held in Amsterdam to raise attention to the situation in Tibet and other human rights abuses in China. Here is more from our Correspondent in Amsterdam.

STORY:
Almost ten thousand people attended the Ticket for Tibet festival, showing their support for the people in Tibet. The festival included famous Dutch musicians and live debates. It brought attention to the current situation in Tibet, and also helped people learn people about the Tibetan culture.
[Tsering Jampa; Executive Director International Campaign for Tibet]: [The festival was] to introduce all aspects of Tibetan culture to the Dutch people. It's really important for the Dutch to learn about Tibet.
Dutch parliament members and famous Dutch artists came to the rally. Government members discussed whether they should attend the Olympics opening ceremony.
[Femke Halsema; Parliament Member] (female):
We think that the Dutch government shouldn't attend the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. There is no reason for celebration, with human rights continuing to be violated. With the situation the way it is you don't go and sit with a Dutch flag at the opening ceremony.
Tibet was not the only human rights abuse that was mentioned.
[Erik van Muiswinkel; Famous Dutch Comedian]: The focus here is not just Tibet, it is the whole situation in China. In two districts alone one hundred and fifty six Falun Gong practitioners have been arrested, probably disappeared now, maybe even killed already. That sort of thing is even much more urgent.
[Hans van Baalen; Representative Dutch Ministery of Foreign Affairs]:
The Falun Gong people they are arrested, they are put in jails, they are killed, their organs are used in hospitals or certain kinds of near detention facilities... this is a terrible thing.

  • Do you have anything intelligent to say?

    Or are you brain dead?

  • free to bed

  • FREE TIBET

  • fuck of china!

  • It's so cute watching Europeans who indulge themselves in fluff talk as if they lived in China and witnessed everything with their own eyes. This hypocrisy is getting out of control, if you like freedom in Tibet that much, and that you're a true freedom fighter, grab a gun and go there to liberate them. You know China's a dictatorship, you know peace won't work, go then, join the revolt, instead of waving some flag, then going back to your plasma TV to watch your shows, and enjoy your life.

  • Amsterdam is great!

  • Besides, the Dutch woman with the Tibetan flag refered as "government member" is a parliment member. Tell me Mr. journlist since when "parliment member"="government member"?

  • Netherlands is such an amazing country reporting lowest criminal ratio in the world.

You know how they achieve it?----They just legalize almost all the criminal behavior, like prostitution, drug trade and so on. Funny nation, aren't they?!

  • that fat guy does have a great ass doesn't he. I'd like to hit that.

  • I LIKE THAT FAT GUY..FREE TIBET
