This project was created for the Elementary classroom. The purpose is not to give an exhaustive account. Rather, it will basic background knowledge to build upon afterward. Enjoy!

  • Just an update: I showed your video to my 8th graders to introduce their research project. When it was done, students were truly excited to learn about the orphan trains and be assigned their own orphan train rider to research.

  • I have been doing an orphan train project with my middle school students for years. I will be using this video to introduce the project from now on. This is the best video overview I have seen. The music is wonderful and together with the visual history will definitely engage my students. Thank you so much for sharing this!

  • Awesomely powerful. My class was speechless!

  • Thanks for sharing this video. My son, Mark wrote and recorded the song, and I mixed it in our home studio. Very well done. Even though I knew about the orphan train, I had never seen the gripping images you put together for this video. Kinda made me misty eyed too.

  • Used this as an anticipitory set in my 4th grade classroom for "Orphan Trains" all of my kids were mesmorized by the images and the song, we watched it twice and I had kids moved to tears and they other half were very touched. We even watched it a third time a week later because they loved it so much, GREAT video!

  • very beautifully done done my daughter tabitha did the one called the orphan train by tibbycat21 with permission from the artist as she was touched by the song . I think this is something that more people should know about

  • Thanks abbyj. I created this for my 4th grade class and a had a lot of fun researching it. I'm not sure if you caught the Idona Swedenburg video I made either. Regardless, thanks for the comment and sure, share away!

  • This is a beautifully done capsule of a little known movement in our history. I'd like to do some art based on the ORPHAN TRAIN story and perhaps embed your video on my blog as well. Well done...I'll let you know if/when it's done. I was a documentary TV producer for 25 years and I appreciate your work!! Best, abbyj
