@Crypt1cmyst1c interesting, as they just held a short event in Tulsa Ok, and I guaranee it wasn't close to a 1 billion $ cost. The current generation of racers(Mark II and Mark III) burn 500 pounds of Liquid oxygen and 500 pounds of Ethanol, costing less than $500 per tank. It takes a team of two to fuel and maintain each vehicle.
@CanadianFabe extrapolating a bit for inflation at the time these would take place)
additionally, the race operators would have to have extra fuel on hand, which even with today's prices on jet fuel would be costly, as those planes would be burning high energy density fuels which are richer and costlier than normal jet-fuel. trust me, ive done my math, and one of these races would cost over $1billion
@CanadianFabe each racer costs upwards of 1million, between designing the racers, fueling them, training a pilot, each probably comes out to cost approximately 8million per race. buying/renting airspace for the track would be incredibly expensive, as its not as small as a car racing or even a redbull air-race course. paying officials, commentators, track design specialists, safety inspectors, chase planes, (and chase plane pilots) could probably add up to another 500 million per race, (i'm also
@Crypt1cmyst1c Over a billion dollars? how do you figure that ? these are only small planes with a small rocket engine powered by liquid oxygen and ethanol on them not actual space craft. I've seen rocket powered trucks at air shows.
