@Kanuskiz, Good thing I bought a compilation of the movies and even a compilation of both OVA sets. Loved the robots, they're so grounded in reality. I liked the JSDF labors (Helldiver FTW!) and damn if they did really exist in our world. It's gonna change warfare forever.

@Kanuskiz you know what's weird? I thought the OVA, the TV series, and the movies were all part of one continuity. Although I never got to watch the TV series whole (only got as far as the Phantom storyarc), the part where Asuma made up with his father for me seemed to take place in late 2000 ( I still got a Protoculture Addicts eps guide). The retirement of Alphonse was May 2001, nine months before P2.

thanks to this short clip ive just decided to watch te whole patlabor saga
One of the interesting things about Patlabor 2 is that it's not a mech movie/anime at all. The Patlabors and military Labors in the movie are just another tool amongst the myriad of others used to complete the objectives of the characters.
It's a suspense/war film, through and through. I wonder if Tom Clancy has seen it, as I would think he would very much appreciate it's level of intrigue.

This movie is truly the last story for Patlabor franchise. Noa is completely grew out of her love for Alphonse, Asuma ultimately ended up working in his father's company that he hated so much and the 2nd SVU division is irreversibly disbanded at the end. Lastly, Goto does not end up with Shinobu... Of course, this is the ending for one continuity. The alternate timeline just ended without a real denouement.
