Great track, great album, Great band!

Jimmy Cream was keen, his brain was always winnin',
I can't keep tabs on mine, it's really quite a joke
I see him down the road, I ask if he'd be willing
To lend me 15p - I'm dying for a smoke
Don't arrange to have me sent to no asylum
I'm just as sane as anyone
It's a just a game I play for fun - for fun.
I told em - look! - I said I'm not the way you're thinkin,
Just when I'm down, I'll be a clown, I'll play the fool.
Please don't arrange to have me set to no asylum
It's just a game I play for fun - for fun.
Will he take a sailboat ride?
He is very likely to,
Will he feel good inside?
He ain't very likely to,
Will he tell you he's alive?
He is always trying to
But nothin', no nothin', does he say
In the morning when the day's begun
- "Hello Good morning, how are you?"
And in the evening or the noonday sun
- "What a lovely afternoon!"
Well I've been living next to you

Bluesy Monday is the one day that they come here,
When they haunt me and taunt me in my cage.
I mock them all, they're feelin' small, they got no answer
They're playin' dumb but I'm just lauging as they rage
Don't arrange to have me sent to no asylum
It's only a game I play for fun
I've been foolin' everyone - everyone.
Will he take a sailboat ride?
He is very likely to
Will he feel good inside?
He ain't ever likely to
Will he tell you he's alive?
He is always tryin' to
But nothin', no nothin' does he ever say
In the morning when the day's begun
- "Do you think it looks like rain"?
And in the evening or the noonday sun
- "You know I nearly missed my train"
Well I've been living next to you my friend
But what kind of friend are you?
Is it the beginning or the sorry end?
Will I ever see it through?
I've never been insane
Oh what's the game?
I believe I'm dying...
He's mad, mad, mad...
Not quite right...
Oooooooooo..............

  • Abso-bloody-lutely fantastic! This song was based on One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, but came out a year before the movie, so their inspiration was from the book. I love this song so very much, especially the end.

  • @sunonthewindow well i didn't know that. Cheers! One of my favorite dilemmas is trying to decide who's songs i like best, Hodgson or Davies. I have to say, it's got to be, in the final analysis, Rick Davies. But then again, when Hodgson left, i lost interest. I saw a concert in Madrid, with two guitarists, one of them handling Rogers vocals, and well....i had to file it under "Oh Dear". Kind of like Fleetwood after Buck left, but then he came back.

A reunion is long overdue, shirley!

  • @modelverb Apparently the Paris DVD coming out this year, but I've heard nothing but rumours

  • @ s.o.t.w wow, Excellent. I see u had your old acc wiped out. Me2, & last week i got my first red notice for another supertramp paris video with 'school' and 'bloody well right'. Pain in the arse, it's only highlighting how good the album is. I've appealed but heard nothing. I'm not talking about the initial copyright/appeal, but the 1st red strike. I wrote to the complainent, fallen on deaf ears i think. I like your bike video. When they all go over at once, bloody ell. Only takes on to fall..

  • Why is this version sooo fast, original was better

  • @DrWeirdPro I always got Supertramp, the only thing that kept me sane driving to and from 10hr night shifts in the motor trade. Building cars I could never afford to buy, relentless mundane shit job I had to do to pay a mortgage and bring up two ungrateful astard kids and a unt of a wife. Yea the only thing that kept me sane was Supertramp and I got to see them live at the Birmingham Odeon in about 1973. I paid £5 each for the tickets, the best £10 I ever spent !

  • @sunonthewindow I always though that was some kind of relation, but I never found something that proved it. I recently got courage to mash the two things up (movie, song). I got really happy with the result.

  • The CUCKOO at the end used to be delayed while a small light would travel from Mr Davies over the top of the group over to stage right or left, where it would finally land on a stagehand dressed up in a gorilla outfit........and he would tip his hat to the crowd as the CUCKOO went off.

  • One of the fun things with Supertramp is their attention to detail during a concert, especially Mr. Helliwell who makes it funny even if you don't get the music.

Listen to the bell at 3:05 followed by the cheering from the crowd......that bell is hanging from John's mike all during the concert and you're always wondering what they're for. Then John (always the overactor) picks it up and presents them to the crowd before making his "ding-ding" followed by a big bow. Little detail, but important

  • @sunonthewindow I so love the studio version of this. Now I know the reason for the CUCKOO at the very end of the song. Thanks for the info.
