Many athletes at some point may develop shin splints. It's painful condition involving the muscles in the front of the leg between the knee and ankle. The key thing to remember here is that this is an over use muscle syndrome that can develop for no apparent reason or for obvious reasons like poor running techniques or improper athletic shoes. Often I have found that along with the shin splints there are mechanical problems in other areas like the hips, knees and feet that can contribute to the pain from shin splints. When you address these other areas the recovery time is much quicker than just treating the shins.

The reason for the shin splint pain is generally caused by nerve compression and irritation of the membrane between the bones in the shin. The nerve and membrane get compressed by the muscle spasms in the shins as this condition progresses. When this problem progresses it can develop into pain shooting into the foot and eventually cause weakness in your foot causing you foot to slap down with each step you take. That called foot drop and it is vital that you try to seek out treatment before that happens.
Shin Splints: Chiropractic Care vs Medication

Treatment from my Chiropractic practice in Meadville for shin splints has proven to be much more effective than just using pain medication and a new pair of sneakers. By treating the root of problem I get quicker and more permanent results because I address the mechanical issues leading to the painful shin splints. We improve the movement of the muscles and the bones with highly specific pressure points and joint mobilization. Specific exercises, stretching, and shoe inserts may be needed for prevention once the symptoms are relieved. The foot posture s evaluated to determine the best route for prevention of recurrence.

The bottom line is that many sports related conditions can be treated with my chiropractic techniques because I address the mechanical aspects of the shin splints problem. These are physical problems and physical problems need physical treatment. Using pan meds are a chemical treatment and that does not get to the root of a physical problem like physical treatment does. Since we treat both the muscles and the bones in my practice the best possible result is achieved because of the intimate relation ship between the muscles and the bones.

  • Do you have to be referred to see a chrio? Because I have been doing some running training for the last couple of weeks and I cannot run no more that 1 minute. I haven't ran in about 5 months and I just started back and I got bruising on my soleus muscle.

  • See your chiro, not your PT. Chiropractic works a lot faster and they do everything PT's do PLUS they adjust the spine!

  • See your PT, not your chiro. You left out nerve mobility, muscle re-education and sequencing, pelvic PNF patterns, and interosseous membrane mobilization. Nice marketing video though.
