@abakhsho Do you even know who Tharoor is? hahah..If you even had a minute idea of what he's achieved you'll actually see that his positions and publications actually far outstrip even Hitchens. I am big fan of the Hitch but I'm not gonna hear of Tharoor spoken of in that way..lol..intellectual 'midget' indeed. There's nothing in this debate that even warrants that kind of comment so chill out.. And shame on all of you who gave it a thumbs up.

Tharoor is not an intellectual midget, to the contrary. The more shameful the intellectual dishonesty of his accommodationist and apologist stance regarding religion. And just what one would expect of a politician, who, if he wants to get and stay in power has to avoid offending voters - many of which are believers.

India does not hate Islam. Few Indians are against muslims simply because more than 100 million muslims live in India and most of them are peaceful. The problem is not Islam but a certain set of ideology that has taken the mantle of Islam and is spreading hatred. Pakistan is a fertile ground for such ideologies due to its very existence. I am not sure people like Hitchins can make the fine distinction as they come from a different culture.

@editorflipsyde Typical whining and whimpering from another supporter of another victim of Christopher. There isn't writer in his time that is superior to Hitch; whether is his extensive travels, that far supersede Shashi Tharoor, or his near-perfectly lettered books, which have out-sold Tharoor's...any way you slice it, Hitch gets the nod. Not to mention Tharoor worked for the woeful UN, which is beyond reform. If you don't want to be made to look a fool, don't act like one.

Being a ex-under secretary doesnt necessarily accord him the high crown of intellect. I disagreed with him on many issues, but where are the people of his calibre? Who could fill his shoes? Most of us couldn't even ask to pay homage to his cobbler! This man had a first-rate mind, and the world is so much poorer for his absence.
