Initially, I was deeply interested in Vermeer's financially damaging love of certain expensive colours.
However, having visited the exhibition, I became more interested in the portrayal of the activities of
organic women in natural light. Furthermore, I was intrigued by the way that art historians would
offer suggestions of the subjects which Vermeer's women may have been writing and reading about
in their letters. For this reason, I decided to make a film which served as a series of film portraits of
women in the process of writing letters -- an activity which is perhaps less prominent in the modern
world. With the guidance of Tim Sidell, and further inspiration from Julia Tozer and Simon Payne, I
was able to hone the overall design of the cinematography and sound of my film.
