The material world is comprised of names and forms. These names and forms may change, but behind all the changes the essence or truth is the same. Utilizing the example of the ocean, Sri Gurudev explains the nature of names and forms.
(From a satsang at Satchidananda Ashram-Yogaville Virginia, during which Sri Gurudev answered questions from the audience.)

I agree with devarsi. We are conscious beings, knowing beings. We were that as a baby and now.

and in whatever energy we find ourselfs in, we will always experience ourselfes as seperate individuals that is a fact. The soul does not merge with any energy, disolves into energy, looses its identity at death, or becomes one with everything or is God. The soul is an eternally conscious and antimaterial spiritual and individual part and parcel of God Krishna. Read Bhagavad Gita As It Is Lord Krishna says:" All living entities are my eternal parts and parcels and I am the seed giving father"
