This is my first attempt at making a galician chanter in th the key of C. I had no references to go by other than some photos, so the project was alot of trial and error. It is made of epoxy and other such materials. It will not blow into the second octive. It uses a Seivane type female reed. The tune is the popular spanish jig "Muneira Marinana ". after 30 years of the scottish highland pipes, I'm a beginner again....

  • Nicely done! I'd love to see your plans.

  • @Marcblur At this point, I don't have any since I altered most of the dimensions

after I made my initial plan...which was not too acurate to begin with. It lacks the middle tuning hole at the bottom, and the placement of the holes is spaced differently from normal "c" punteiro.

  • Very good stuff, if you make one and want to show it in Galicia I will play it if you want ;)

  • @luife2 Hi Luife, I will take you up on that when I come to Spain some day. We will have alot to talk about. I am writing a few jigs for the highland pipes that have some spanish influence. When I'm more advanced with the gaita I will write tunes for it. But, now I have to study galician music more to have any authenticity in my future galician compositions:)

PS) I have become intrigued with the closed fingering style, but for now, I'll stick to the open style.

  • Amazing you could make this...Very good performance on your instrument...Fran

Hi Fran. Thanks for the comment. I hope to make it better and add the drones when I can finally finish them.

  • The tone is great. simply great. You should publish the dimensions even if they aren't 'right'. Sounds like a galician chanter to me and I've been listening to them for ages.

Had you not said anything I wouldnt have known the difference.

  • Wow this is awesome :D
