Faith - A Spoken Word Poem

Thanks to drmitch and lamnick for asking good questions. It was nice having a respectful discussion over something we disagreed on.

The Poem:
FAITH
Faith is the substance of things hoped for
Evidence of things unseen
Answers that I once groped for
But what the hell does all that mean?
Hope is a ghost- an apparition
A figment of things for which youre wishin
But listen
Faith is the rope that rescues the hope
Hope is desire but faith is a fire
That forges and sharpens the hope into fire
A hot blade
A tool or a weapon depending on which way
The hand that handles the handle turns
Switchblade
Or Swiss Army
A hammer and nails to put up the walls
Careful construction the house never falls
Believing is building or folding a fist
Lending a substance to shadow and mist
So Faith is to hope as matter to light
The real and the rational, touch after sight
Hope for a home, faith will finish the roof
Question convictions, faith provides the proof
Cause truth is elusive and sight can deceive
In absence of certainty I bank on what I believe
While youre chasing your hunches or blind intuitions
My instincts are in synch with molecular motion
Yeah my gut knows whats up like the north star at night
I know Ill be alright, long as He sends me words to write
Cause to try to do this alone would be an exercise in futility
No, what youre hearing is proof of a God-given ability
My evidence of Providence
The words only flow online through inspiration
The pen doesnt go without divine authorization
To this authors frustration some days when I need words
To think Im the authority on this would be absurd
My prayers heard and though I might not like the answer
One was given and though I might not understand, sure
I hold to faith that God knows better than I do
And in crisis, Hes still the sanctuary that I fly to
Cause in 30 years Ive found that the only certainty for me
Is G-O-D, and that He is not me.
But youre free to disagree, Im not trying to convert you
Or use my faith to hurt you
Cause that would be absurd too
What I am is a tolerant toleration teacher
Ive been called superstitious by atheists and preachers
Im a speecher, a professor, I speak truths to reach you
Across breeches. Its me, just another of Gods creatures

Hi, I enjoyed this.

But I was just wondering about when you mention that faith is "evidence of things unseen" and that "faith provides the proof". But faith means precisely the opposite of this, i.e. believing in something without any evidence or proof.

Sorry, I'm quite new to poetry and maybe I have missed the point

@philipdevlin69 Hey - it's a line from the Bible. It basically means that the object of the faith (God) can only be proven by the faith itself. It really only works for those who have faith, so it can kinda be circular, but for me, it captures it nicely. Thanks for your feedback!

@philipdevlin69 Nah, I think guy in the video is right. Faith is the trust in realities not yet beheld. Faith is the substance until you see for yourself because the one with faith sees it
