The Vein Whisperer -- Painless Peripheral I.V.s, Part 1 of 2

Have you ever experienced a really painful peripheral I.V. or blood draw? This is a problem from which nurses AND patients suffer. It doesn't have to be this way. We were fortunate to meet and model the talents of a veteran RN (40 years in health care) who is able to consistently deliver painless I.V.s and blood draws with a 98% success rate (last 5,000 I.V.s). As a result of meeting this humble and generous "vein whisperer," we've gotten a chance to watch him work, interview him, codify what he does, compare his methods to those who are less successful, and to check his practices against known best research-backed approaches. Working with our exemplar, we've created 5 blended learning modules that feature multimedia instruction, live demonstration, and structured practice.
