The graphics were filmed off the vectorscope monitor of an Evans and Sutherland Picture System. It's a monochrome display so color filters and multiple passes were needed. These were likely processed on an optical printer to create the glows and other special effects. Con Pederson, FX Sup on 2001, wrote the software Abel used on the E+S called A-Pix. He later rewrote it for use on SGI and that version was called B-Pix.
