from season 4 episode 25 "Old Tree"

Your Mama Can Only Sing

Chorus:
Oh, my little bunny face
My teeny beeny cuddly thing
I got a big bummer news
Your mama can't talk
Your mama can only sing

No fakin, No foolin
She flaps her lips and out comes croonin

Baby learns to use a spoon
Mama only sings a tune
Baby counts from 1 to 3
Mama makes a melody
If baby falls and bangs her knee
Sorry, here's a rhapsody

Can you love a mom who can't gab or chatter?
No yak or yammer, chew the fat
No jaw & jabber

Can you love a mom who doowops, scats
She warbles, yodels, spits the scales
She bops and raps

Chorus

Holling:
Shelly, honey, dry your eyes
Worry not, we'll harmonize
In my opinion talk comes cheap
Who needs to make a speech
Truth is, my lovely bride
Sing or talk, i'm by your side

Both:
Oh, my little bunny face
My teeny beeny cuddly thing
Don't you feel lonely, don't you feel blue
Cuz i'll be singin with you
No fakin no foolin
I'll be singin with you

  • I just saw this once, when it first came out. I didn't usually watch it, just happened upon it. It was soooo annoying! Just had to check it out to see if it had improved with age; it has not. What kind of "disorder" did she have, that she could only sing?! BTW, I'm not knocking anyone else who did enjoy it :)

  • well, as leonard, the shaman explained it to her when she got her tone-deaf voice back, the singing was supposed to soothe her mind while she was all worked up about her pregnancy -- and it did :)

  • I've been waiting for someone to post this!Thank you.

  • you're very welcome :)

  • I wonder if she was pregnant in this show because I didn't see the baby

  • Cynthis Geary gave up acting to raise her kids . I respect her for it but I sure do miss her.

  • I love Holling.

  • @NXfangirl when cats are sick they purr a lot, constantly. it helps to soothe their mind. i discovered this with my cat when she was diagnosed with cancer. i bet other animals do it too but as a society we've gotten away from these things. this show is full of native american and getting back to your roots ideas.

  • This entire episode was going to be a musical, but that idea was nixed after it turned out that John Cullum and Cynthia Geary were the only trained singers in the cast.

Still, it's one of my favorites, mostly because of these songs.

  • I love this so much. The highlight is when Holling appears in the background and John Cullum joins her. He is a man who was (and still is) in musicals in NYC stage. He just adds the sensitiveness to this scene. Thanks for posting it!

  • ty so much i have also been looking for this made me cry back then and still does

  • I just started watching this show again recently. I only remembered a little from when I was a kid, and I'm noticing how many things on this show that don't make sense. This is a show that throws all logic out the window, but I don't mind it. I think her singing is pretty cool.
