Edelweiss Pirates - Heroes Against Fascism

My tribute to the Edelweiss Pirates and the Navajos who were actively resistant to national socialism in Germany during the 1930s and 1940s. There is a movie available which is based on these music loving young people who rebelled against fascism called Edelweisspiraten and it is availble via Amazon on DVD. They are still an inspiration after all this time.

i had to do a oral report for my history essay at school.

i got 93%

the eidelweiss pirates are an inspiration for all young people. never let anyone tell you how to run your own life. follow your own aspirations and dreams. they are true heroes. they also show that kids arnt stupid & ignorant. they are brave and just need to be heard!

btw thanks fro the video i used it for my presentation if that was ok. so i guess half my marks probs belong to you!

Hi, I'm glad you used the video, how did it go down with your fellow students? It is amazing how people are just now coming to recognise the importance of the Edelweiss Pirates and also the Navajos, and the Swing Youth, all of whom defied Nazism, and show us all that it is possible to stand against thugs.

In what way is Fascism/Nazism heroic?  Only a Nazi would say that. Real heroes are those who are prepared to die for standing up against the Bullies and the Murderers who use fear and force to destroy political freedom and democracy. I'm so glad you left this message, I think they were inspired to act by the situation they found themselves in. The definitive account has yet to be written although there are some academic articles that I have from my time as a student in the 1980's, I will look them out and post the references here at a later date. Not forgetting the White Rose Group from the south, who stood against the Nazi's and faced a similar fate to the Edelweiss Pirates. I just thought I'd mention them since they deserve to be remembered as well.

This is real heroes, and a lot of them were killed by the nazi bastards. 1944 the nazis hanged 13 members of the Ehrenfelder group. Some of them had been members of the Pirates or their leaders. The youngest of them were 16 years old. One of them were Bartel Schink. I never heard of them at school.

it is disgusting that they were hung for being kids. children as young as 14 were being hung.
