  • I would say I love the internet but I am not sure if it because I have "problems"

  • @TechnomancerMorhion On weekends, I go on the internet from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m...with small breaks. o.o

"2 in 5 abductions of children ages 15-17 are due to internet contact."

And most abductions of children are by a family member or someone close to the family. It doesn't mean families are a negative influence.

There we go. Most assuredly it's an interesting theory, but it really needs refinement. You left way too many variables unanswered, and stated most things in a way that are open to too much interpretation.

"Most people spend around 2-5 hours a day online."

Most people spend around 8 hours sleeping, and 8 hours working, often more. The amount of time spent on an activity is irrelevent when it's not put into context as to how it's harmful.

"1 in 4 kids participate in real time chat."

Less than the amount that participate in verbal conversations in real time, or spend hours on the phone.

  • (Cont)"305 employees spent at least one work day a week on non-work related websites."

This is not a particularly precise statement. It leaves out numerous details as to what the circumstances were for the survey. Was this actually during work or personal time before, during, or after work?

"Many people go online to escape problems, etc"

Many people also drink, shootup, abuse family, and any number of assorted things to escape problems. Hopping online is one of the least problematic.

"25%-50% of cyber addiction is occuring in the workplace"

Could it be due to the work environment?

I wonder if the survey had the option of choosing "work" along with the other choices.

"Have you ever felt angry when you are not able to go online?"

This is a loaded question. Obviously most people have, especially when they have to pay for the service themselves. It's extremely aggrivating when you pay for a service and it doesn't work.

  • Interesting video, but there's some stuff that simply is a bit rediculous.

"Have you ever felt like you can talk about more things when you are online?"

Yes. It's called anynomity. Never having to actually see the person, or ever communicate with them again often allows people to drop their personal guard and self built social walls and speak what's on their mind without reservation.

And even though I spend all my non-school and non-work time on WoW, I'm not neglecting my responsibilities. I don't have a PROBLEM, I don't have a DISEASE and I'm not DYSFUNCTIONAL.

HOWEVER, it is good to draw awareness to being careful on the internet w/ personal info to avoid predators and such, especially when you are a child :).

Sorry, I just had to get that out there to FINALLY silence those who say internet is always a bad thing.
