defenders can be 'goofy' in any era and Di Stefano would be 'great' in any era.

yeah i agree. defenders were actually kind of goofy back then, but that was the game and di stefano stood out like pele or maradona did in their time. it's no use comparing, though.

Ha yes but what they had in goofiness they made up for with crunchy tackles. It was common for skillful players to be hacked to pieces in those days.
