This is an exercise from Autism Movement Therapy. Featured in the video is parent, Julia Boyd, and her son Jacob responding to this exercise. Jacob has non-verbal apraxia and this causes him to not be able to verbalize correctly. At first, his arms would not want to cross across his body but after several attempts this became his favorite move. He also began to make sounds that sounded like letters after several attempts. Julia is an Autism Movement Therapy instructor and has begun work with a local dance studio in East Central Illinois. The program is called DRAGONFLIES. Its focus is on the arts and methods that make learning fun and actually improve social interaction with autism and special needs children and adults. The program utilizes University student leaders, future teachers and therapists in a social/learning environment. Everyone wins! Especially the kids and parents who DRAGONFLIES wants to help the most!
