  • I'm more concerned with the 645F in the lead SD50! I wonder where that prime mover is now...

  • @SpeakerPolice Unfortunatly, scrapped :(

  • You don't think there is any possibility that the prime mover itself was repurposed? D:

  • @SpeakerPolice I doubt it, very sad indeed :(

  • Fucker was Pulling! Good Shit!

  • @Branzo29 Oyeah!!! Sounded GREAT!!

  • OMG Love that EMD Sound

  • @troy12n No, they are on the crest of a 1.9% grade, I am right. Ive lived here for 9 years and have NEVER in my life seen an eastbound train not in Run 8.

  • Indeed. Apparently, the 645Fs do very well in marine and stationary service...

  • wow. i am not a railfan and don't know anything about what engines they have. but, i will take a stab in the dark and say that there has to have been like 30,000hp with a combined 48 pistons. damn. it sounds amazing.

  • @troy12n What you are hearing are the traction motor fans running full blast. Those engines are clearly in Run 8 - no way in hell they're idling. They won't run to 900 RPM in dynamic.

  • Awesome sounds :O

  • @SkyhawkACE123 I agree. We have EMDs here too, with the 710 series engine. They make this same kind of sound when run on full power. The sounds during dynamic braking are different. :D

  • @nsrailfann4life91 The "whistling" from any turbo is from the blades on the impeller - 16 in the case of an EMD 645 (not sure about a 710). That doesn't vary between identical units. When the impeller itself is out of balance, it creates a whining sound that (with 16 blades) is exactly 4 octaves below the whistle - which is why some units whine and others don't.
