Back around 2005, there was some turmoil within the Republican Party. Leadership was changing, and David Dreier, the telegenic and always immaculately-groomed Congressman from California was often mentioned in conversations regarding filling the new leadership posts. Alas, he was passed over?

Why?

Because it is an open secret that David Dreier is gay. And no homosexual can hold a leadership position in the homophobic Republican caucus.

Actually, I'm being unfair.

This video will probably cost me a lot of "friendships" I'ev forged with Republicans. Washington Republicans aren't homophobic, at least so far as I've been able to tell. Hell, they knew about Mark Foley for years.

No... The problem is that the Republican base (and it's hard-core Christian-right constituency) will not tolerate a Republican Party that elevates a gay to leadership. And with Dreier being widely known to be gay, they saw scandal on the horizon.

Honestly, I feel really badly for David Dreier. He must feel so all alone.

  • We really miss David All his speeches about how importing cheap foreign labor and exporting middle class jobs would be good for the world, IT WILL BE GREAT FOR AMERICA Well here we are No manufacture or industrial base anymore and kids thrown into sweat shops making 25 cents an hour. Products that are junk and break right out of the boxes And the worst part if you listen to him in this video. he's still doing it Pretty sad he can't even take care of the people that voted him into office.OK Davie

  • Drier is the ultimate hypocrite. If he is unrepentant about male/male penetrative sex acts and simultaneously votes against glbt equal rights, then shouldn't the voter be allowed to weigh the logic of that?

  • This gay man is elected as a Republican and always votes Republican, but with some exceptions.

  • I once worked as an intern in David Dreier's district office when I attended USC. He is the most shallow, narcissistic, self-centered man you'll ever want to meet. The first thing he said to me after meeting him was, "Why do you want to work for me? I guess it's because you've seen me on TV, huh?" What a jerk. I once asked him where he was on 9/11, and he responded in a smug manner by saying "Uh, did you watch CNN?" No jerk, I was at school. Being gay would be an improvement for this creep.

  • @JohnRhysMusician Finally - there seems to be hope for you - but you confuse me. You talk of the "struggle" to find ones self & acceptance. But else where you say (If you've found yourself to be gay) you've made the "wrong choice". Like the search was for choice rather than your true self... I think you're to smart not to know better. Homo is just as valid as Hetro or Bi! And the fight for equality is real - is crucial, can literally mean life or death...and life is better! Gary
  • @JohnRhysMusician I still find it amazing that a bright/worldly person - as you, can believe "gay" a choice. If you are str8 - was it your choice? Could you change & become gay? True gay's can no more change than a str8 (Unless one is truly Bi; lucky me, huh=lol) . Of course all consv. arn't "haters" - (see LogCabins) but it is very important for (especially) prominent gays to be open & out; not just for public opinion but with all the bully & suicides (esp.among teens!)
  • @JohnRhysMusician And surely "preserving the status quo" dosn't mean stopping progress or we's still have only white males voting, segrega- tion & more sins of the past! I'm the last person to question Dreier (or anyones) personal life - as long as no one is hurt... but personally living as one wants but voting against those rights for others is the hipocracy many of us question! "Definitions" are largely religion's doing - states are responsible for liberty/equality/freedom!
  • @JohnRhysMusician The religious right's control

over much of the GOP has only grown worse and

is responsible for much you appear to deplore!

"Optimal/durable" yes - but irrelevant in personal

matters (Decided by the heart - not choice). Tell

a str8 male you must marry this lady - because

its more optimal & will be more durable. You'd

say "you're nuts...I'm marrying for love - period".

Surely your "traditional" values don't extend to

    "arranged" marriages, etc. over love?

  • @JohnRhysMusician Nice to hear from you - though I

see you don't sleep either... I wont resort to repeating

gossip about Dreir & accept that you know & respect

him! I too used to live in OC & worked with & for my

(R)rep (James Utt) who was very conservative - yet

as he (& I as YR pres) took any stand or candidate

that the crazzies didn't approve (in our day) we were

called "liberal' even "commies" or worse! So I know

the drill & am pleased by some of Dreier's recent

    votes...

  • @MrGBOOK Traditional values meaning preserving the status quo on social issues. Preserving the definition of marriage, protecting states rights on abortion, protecting religious liberty and expression, etc.

I still am not sure what indicates Congressman Dreier is homosexual or what he voted on that was anti-gay. Too often those who are social conservatives are deemed anti-gay, but I don't think you could even describe Dreier as a social conservative.

  • I hate these 500 letter boxes - but not having an E-Mail or Youtube address I didn't have any other way. Of course they will be out of order so I hope you can make some sense of them; like I said: was thinking of you & your reply to my Dreir post & after seeing him next to Maxine/lol and wanted to say hello & some of the thoughts I failed to communicate last time. Hope you're well & happy & reconsidering some opinions - Peace Gary
  • @MrGBOOK I do believe sexuality is more than we as humans can comprehend, but that ultimately it comes down to personal choice and I do believe that a heterosexual relationship is the most optimal and durable relationship choice you can make in life. I've come to this conclusion through informed medical and scientific research. Unfortunately the discussion features far too much on religion and immature personal feelings.
