  • what bush was referring to (and royally screwed up as usual) was the democratic peace theorem from international relations theory. empirically no mature liberal democracy has gone to war with ANOTHER mature liberal democracy. its definitely true that democracies have gone to war.

  • no problem.

  • Thanks for clearing that up.

  • democracy is, if i'm not mistaken, a core tennet of the united states constitution - The government is answerable to citizens, who may change it through elections.

the difference you're reffering to is between representative (madison's definition of republic) and direct democracy.

  • We are not a democracy. We are a republic. There's a big difference.

  • Technically, the Soviet Union crushed Germany. You know, the Red Army... in Berlin... 'Cause Hitler attacked them because he hated communism?

I'm willing to call it an allied effort, as American and British troops did a great deal to stretch Hitler's forces thin while Russia was hammering them, but either you agree the ruskie commies were you allies or you stop saying "you" won.

Oh, and you also didn't win in Japan. You comitted GENOCIDE. Killing a hundred thousand innocents is not a win.
