Out for a spin on my Yamaha WR250R ( not a WR250X ) equipped with a FMF PowerCore, FMF PowerBomb header, FMF Fuel Injection Power Programmer, and aluminum GYTR sprocket (stock size). Also have Dunlop D606 DOT legal nobbies with about half tread left. Top speed was about 94 MPH (indicated).

  • what is top speedo of wr 250 x or r with original parts? sorry for the english but i'm italian

  • @metal1fede The speedometer is digital so I have no way of knowing for certain what the top speed is on it but when I was breaking it in with everything stock the fastest I got was around 90 mph. On my first test run with everything stock I hit 85 mph just cruising and taking it easy. With the FMF pipe and fuel injection programmer I have seen 98 on the LCD but that was on a downhill. This is all with nobby Dunlop D606 dirt tires, not street wheels.

  • if you change your gearing, you do not need a speedo healer! with any of the Wr's R, X, or F's. The display computer can be adjusted to compensate for gearing changes. read your manual!

  • @supermoto2250 Never heard of this before but I hope you are right!! Thanks for the tip man!! I have the 2008 model, hope mine has that!

  • @noah44444 This is why after upgrading your exhaust on a bike with a carb you would upgrade your jets to richen your mix. The fuel injection programmer accomplishes the same thing but you ca adjust the thing using the plus and minus buttons on it instead of taking your carb apart just to install a new jet. The FMF programmer has different settings for accelerating, cruising, decel, so you can tune it to your liking on the road. I mounted it on the bars but some people have them under the seat.

  • @gelonet75 If you are considering the exhaust consider saving for a fuel injection programmer. The FMF one was not difficult to install. You basically just plug it in and it works. The idea is to richen up your air/fuel ratio as a more free flowing exhaust can leave your bike running lean which will actually make it run faster but HOTTER which can lead to valve or piston damage if your mix is lean enough. It depends on your specific exhaust and intake setup. Your altitude can also play a factor.

  • @bArBeLtEt A K&N would be a good upgrade but the stock one seems to be working just great. When it is worn out I will go with the K&N. I drilled some holes in the original air box and removed the little intake flapper on the top of the airbox to improve intake performance. If you increase exhaust flow you need to increase intake flow to match.

The GYTR sprocket is lighter and every little bit counts. I pull off anything that is not "necessary" so the bike will handle better on the really nasty rock/muddy trails I frequent. I love the Dunlop 606, they do hold up great on the street for an 90 off / 10 on nob. Something about the compound they use makes it pretty darn sticky but strong enough hold up on the street compared to other non-DOT nobs I have run. Most of the other DOT nobs I have run were not so great in the dirt.

  • @sk8ermek Have you verified your speedo against a GPS or someone in a car?

My speed is about 5-10 MPH and if you have aftermarket sprockets that can change things too without a speedo healer.
